Purpose: Education + confidence
Audience: Parents, carers, schools
This page answers:• What Calmii™ is for
• How to introduce it
• How it supports communication
• What adults should do in response
Calmii™ is a handheld tactile communication tool designed to support calm, non-verbal communication when words feel difficult.
It works best when introduced gently, without pressure, and used as a shared understanding tool between a child and a trusted adult.
Introducing Calmii™
Introduce Calmii™ at a calm, regulated moment — not during distress.
• Allow the child to hold and explore the textures
• Talk through what each tile represents using simple language
• Keep the experience relaxed and unstructured
This builds familiarity and confidence before Calmii™ is needed.
Understanding the Tiles
Each tile represents a feeling or a need (for example: too loud, need quiet, calm/okay).
You might say:
“You can show me how you’re feeling without needing to talk.”
There is no right or wrong way to use Calmii™.
Using Calmii™ When Words Are Hard
When a child feels overwhelmed, frustrated, or unable to speak:
• Encourage them to choose a tile
• Place the tile into the Calmii™ bar
• Acknowledge what they are communicating
For example:
“I see you’re telling me it’s too loud. Let’s find some quiet.”
The aim is understanding, not immediate problem-solving.
Responding Calmly
Calmii™ works best when adults respond calmly and consistently.
• Validate the message shown
• Reduce demands where possible
• Offer space, quiet, or reassurance
This helps the child feel heard and safe.
Keeping Calmii™ Accessible
Calmii™ can be kept:
• In a school bag
• In a calm area at home
• In a classroom or sensory space
It should always be treated as a communication aid, not a toy.
Important Notes
• Calmii™ is not a toy
• Adult supervision is recommended
• Not suitable for mouthing or chewing
• Discontinue use if damaged
Full safety information is provided separately.
A Gentle Reminder
Calmii™ is not about behaviour correction.
It is about connection, understanding, and calm communication — at the child’s pace.
