The Story Behind Calmii®

Calmii® was born in the quiet, overwhelming moments of being a SEN mum.

I’m Rose — mum of two, full-time parent carer, and the designer behind Calmii®.

When my youngest struggled with regulation and communication, I noticed something important: before words, before visuals, before prompts — he reached for texture. He needed something in his hands. Something grounding. Something tactile.

But everything I found was either overstimulating, screen-based, or purely visual.

So I built what didn’t exist.

Calmii® began at my kitchen table and in the cupboard under the stairs — learning CAD from scratch, printing prototypes late at night, testing snap-fits and tolerances while navigating life as a carer.

The result is the Calmii® tactile communication bar — a handheld, screen-free tool designed for calm, low-demand communication. Interchangeable tactile tiles allow regulation first, communication second.

Because tactile comes before language.

Since then, Calmii® has grown beyond one product — with school-tested adaptations, tactile tags for lanyards and boards, dock concepts for classroom use, and registered designs and trademark protection. Everything designed intentionally. Everything parent-led. Everything tactile-first.

Calmii® isn’t a toy.
It’s a handheld tactile communication tool for calm.

And this is just the beginning.
